Sunrise, sunset, the blue hour, the northern lights ... At certain times, the skies are coloured by hues that touch the full spectrum of our emotions. It is these same hues that Studio Noumeno set out to evoke in Piazza Compasso D’Oro, refocusing attention on a harmonious balance between natural and artificial light.

Small flower beds filled with Mediterranean plants – strawberry trees, grasses and aromatic plants – were dotted along the sides of the square, illuminated by Reiko 1.0, Reiko 2.0 and Pivot projectors, the latter mounted on stakes.

The colours and lighting effects of an ever-changing “sky” were recreated by RGBW Colorado linear profiles, while Trevi linear profiles highlighted the sculpture in front of the main entrance, the permanent installation, “Compasso d’Oro, misurare il mondo”, designed and created by Studio Origoni Steiner.

Hanging above it all, the outline of a moon, projected onto the wall using Ginko 3.5 with Light Shaper, and accompanied by the words “Al chiaro di luna” (by the light of the moon). Lyss RGBW projectors installed on the three windows of the tower to the side reproduced the distinctive colours of the ADI Design Museum logo.

The ADI Design Museum was created to contain the historical collection of the Compasso d'Oro award: 2500 projects representing the history of Italian design. Its story is an extraordinary one of memory, recovery and promotion, told not only through its permanent collection but also through its location – an industrial area dating back to the 1930s – and through the architecture itself, which both preserves and enhances the distinctive features of the original industrial archaeology.
