The architect and lighting designer Giovanni Traverso, from studio traverso-vighy in Vicenza, is holding a seminar to promote ways of using light that prevent light pollution, and that it is possible to adapt spaces and still meet people’s physiological needs.
Over the years, architectural training programmes have placed less emphasis on studying the fundamentals of working with natural light. This is because it is so easy to replace natural light with artificial light.
As a direct consequence, there is less shared knowledge about the fundamental properties of light.
We have reached a point where the design culture that traditionally emphasised the connection between a building and its geographical setting, its form and its orientation is considered superfluous to requirements.
This event will give a real insight into the fascinating relationship between light and architecture. It aims to increase awareness of the fundamental and expressive role light plays in architecture, revealing how it can have an enormous effect on our wellbeing and a positive influence on the experience of people using the space.
