thecamp is a new European campus located in Aix-en-Provence, France, and dedicated to innovation, emerging technologies and the smart cities of the future.
The campus was designed by the architectural practice Corinne Vezzoni & Associés, while the lighting was designed by lighting design studio 8'18'’. It consists of a huge white canopy that takes its inspiration from the tents used by nomads and extends over thirteen buildings made of concrete and curved glass. The site’s purpose is to prototype solutions and incubate start-ups.
Siri 3.0 projectors outline the canopy’s oval outer perimeter; with their white finish, they integrate perfectly into the architectural structure.
Neva Mini 1 outdoor LED linear profiles and Pivot 1.7 projectors, in a customized white finish, are installed around the internal circumference of the canopy’s three central fora and direct their light onto the circular flowerbeds that sit below each of the openings in the canopy.
In the outdoor theatre space, Lira 1.0 step lights with asymmetrical optics have been used to highlight the central part of the space and pick out the steps in front of the stage.
Finally, Plin 2.1 bollards with diffuse asymmetrical optics were chosen to light the walkway beside the natural swimming pool. Their head is tilted at 90° to guarantee a controlled downward light emission with no dispersion.
