Going Dark 2024

We never stop exploring light and its infinite possibilities in the outdoor world. More importantly, we never stop asking what is the best way to achieve a harmonious relationship between artificial light and the natural world. That’s why we are delighted to be a partner of the 2024 edition of Going Dark, the international workshop created by Traverso-Vighy and Light Collective.

The event will be held from 3 to 5 October in the monastery of Abbadia a Isola (Monteriggioni), a medieval castle on the Via Francigena, an ancient pilgrimage route that connects Canterbury to Rome. It offers an opportunity to get together with lighting designers, architects, astronomers and local government representatives to explore how to preserve darkness and protect the night sky.

Going Dark aims to promote the co-existence of light, architecture and darkness, and to prove it is possible to celebrate our architectural heritage whilst also respecting the ecosystem in which it is embedded. The ultimate goal is to preserve natural beauty and ensure that everyone can enjoy it for generations to come. Participants will be able to play with light and lighting fixtures, learning about glare control, the correct optics, appropriate colour temperature, and dimming and control, and consequently expanding their portfolio of lighting solutions.

We’re looking forward to taking part and sharing the workshop’s contents with you. In the meantime, we’ll leave a link here to a blog article in which we talk about irresponsible lighting.
